Every Third Friday of the month from 5 – 9 pm, over 40 venues inside 78th Street Studios open up at the same time to present compelling visual exhibits, ambient music, delicious cuisine, and pop up vendors. Named Cleveland’s Best Arts Event by Scene Magazine and Best of Yelp Cleveland, Third Fridays is a multisensory art experience like nothing else in the region. With four different floors of eclectic architecture and visual displays, 78th Street Studios is a retail adventure that allows the public to interact with Cleveland’s living artists and to discover authentic art, furniture, and cuisine made in this region.

That’s why the Ohio Art League would like to congratulate member-artist Chad Cochran on his inclusion in this month’s Third Friday cultural collaboration! Follow the link to learn more about the artist on his photography homepage.

In an effort to get back in touch with his roots in rural Fredericktown, Ohio, Chad began taking photographs of the rustic landscapes that surrounded him as a child. His fascination with decaying buildings and vintage signs provides him with the connection to the small town he grew up in and the ability to share those experiences with us art lovers.

Tonight (July 18th), you can get a firsthand glimpse at some of Cochran’s photography on display in the Laurel Herbold Studio, Suite 107 in 78th Street Studios from 5- 9:30 pm, or by appointment.

Ten Rooms: New Work is a culmination of some of Cochran’s reproductions of dilapidated barns and houses, vintage signage, and rural landscapes. Cochran’s use of image with object elicits a nostalgic response in which the viewer can’t help feeling an intimate connection with the scene.

Uncommon Objects: A Group Exhibition

Image

This June, the Dublin Arts Council presents Uncommon Objects, a three-person exhibition that examines the lines that divide object, representation and perception. Columbus-based artists Andrew Ina, Luke Ahern and Michael Ambron provide viewers with a series of paintings that expose the common threads connecting their practices while also revealing the unique manner in which each addresses the exhibition’s concept.

The exhibition begins with an Opening Reception on Tuesday, June 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dublin Arts Council. Uncommon Objects will be on display through August 2, 2014.

Ina and Ahern, both active members of the Ohio Art League, along with Ambron illustrate the tension and dialogue among surface, image, object, and space via spontaneity and exploration of layers.

The Opening Reception and exhibition are both free of charge, so visit the Dublin Arts Council this summer to support fellow OAL member artists and your community!

CS Gallery is traveling down a new direction and hosting their first three-dimensional artwork exhibition titled Off the Wall. The gallery is in the process of obtaining pedestals suitable for all types of work, but artists should be prepared to bring their own should CS Gallery be unable to provide one. In such case, the 3-D works may be mounted to the wall or ceiling!

Please be sure to include your name and number in the submission form, along with the payment of $15 via cash or check, and the Artwork Details Form to the artwork drop-off.

Submission deadline is Wednesday, May 21 with Drop-Off the following day.

CS Gallery is a non jury gallery for most shows. This means your submission is your commitment to participate, you just have to be present on the designated day with your 5 pieces. If you bring it there is a good chance we will hang it. However, you are only guaranteed one accepted piece. All curation and selection is at the discretion of CS, and is based on size of work and the number of participants in the show.

It is highly recommended that artists attend the Opening Reception on May 31st from 7- 10 pm at the gallery. Off the Wall is scheduled from May 24- June 4.

SYZYGY at the Cleveland West Art League Gallery

The word SYZYGY literally translates to “a collection of stars.” OAL member artist Judy Takacs, however, interprets the word as “a collection of heavenly bodies.” As some of you may know, her expertise in this genre exhumes in her collection Chicks with Balls. In this case, she masterfully showcases men among family and friends as well as strangers.

Conceptualized and curated by fellow Ohio Art League member artist Leslie Humez, the exhibition takes place during Third Friday Art Walk at 78th Street Studios– this Friday January 17th.

Make sure to stop by the Opening Reception this Friday between 6 and 10 pm– come for the art, stay for the fun! The show runs from January 17th to February 21st.

The gallery is open every Friday from 11 am to 4 pm, or for an appointment contact Dan Neforos via cwartleague@gmail.com .
