Barbara Vogel to appear at Dublin Arts Center Gallery in April

Screen Shot 2015-01-29 at 3.33.02 PM
Ohio Art League member-artist extraordinaire Barbara Vogel, along with Marjorie Bender, will hostFamily and Friends, a moving and amusing look at the pivotal relationships of our lives and the people within them.
Family and Friends will be on display at the Dublin Arts Council from April 7 through May 16, 2015, with a public Opening Reception April 7 from 6- 8 PM.
Bender is best known for her clay sculptures, but also produces and exhibits drawings and paintings. Vogel’s background is in photography. Many of her works continue to connect to photographic images, often in unexpected ways. Vogel also was awarded for her accomplishments among the community at the Ohio Made festival the previous summer.
The artists excel in conveying the many dimensions of our closest relationships and in utilizing humor — sometimes whimsical, sometimes dark — to undercut sentimentality. Family and Friendsbrings together earlier and more recent works by both artists and will feature a new collaborative project that pays homage to a number of their mutual friends and mentors.
For more information on the Dublin Arts Council or to check out their line-up of exhibitions and events, head on over to the DAC homepage!
Gallery hours: Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Do good and get fancy for Art For Life 2014!

Screen Shot 2014-08-05 at 2.05.15 PM

The first Art for Life was held August 5, 1989 at the Battleship Building in Short North with 58 artists participating and 115 pieces that were auctioned off, including famous memorabilia. Over the past 25 years, Art for Life has raised nearly 2 million dollars to help support AIDS Resource Center Ohio and the much needed programs and services provided for our community; in 2012, Art For Life raised $440,000 with 1200 attendees from throughout Columbus!

The event, which is the largest charity art auction in central Ohio, is comprised of two parts—a live auction and a silent auction.  Art for Life was started in 1989 by local artists and donors who believed there was a need for an event of this caliber to raise awareness and funds for HIV/AIDS services in our community.

Art for Life 2014 will be held September 13, 2014 atthe Ohio History Center.

The 2014 Event Chairman is Tom Katzenmeyer, President and CEO of the Greater Columbus Arts Council. Purchase tickets here or find out more about sponsorship opportunities!

The Ohio Art League would like to extend exponential gratitude towards those of our current members that donated works into the silent and live auction for this year’s Art for Life event. Click the links below for direct access to the homepage of each designated auction to see works from these and all other artists that donated.

Uncommon Objects: A Group Exhibition

Image

This June, the Dublin Arts Council presents Uncommon Objects, a three-person exhibition that examines the lines that divide object, representation and perception. Columbus-based artists Andrew Ina, Luke Ahern and Michael Ambron provide viewers with a series of paintings that expose the common threads connecting their practices while also revealing the unique manner in which each addresses the exhibition’s concept.

The exhibition begins with an Opening Reception on Tuesday, June 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dublin Arts Council. Uncommon Objects will be on display through August 2, 2014.

Contaminated (detail)
2014 by Andrew Ina

Ina and Ahern, both active members of the Ohio Art League, along with Ambron illustrate the tension and dialogue among surface, image, object, and space via spontaneity and exploration of layers.

The Opening Reception and exhibition are both free of charge, so visit the Dublin Arts Council this summer to support fellow OAL member artists and your community!
